NEVER HASTEN TO BE RICH:
READ PROVERBS 28:20-22
MEMORISE: But those who desire to be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and harmful lusts which drown men in destruction and perdition. (1 Timothy 6:9)
Ungodly characters, such as robbery, corruption, embezzlement, and kidnapping have become the order of the day in our societies. These kinds of atrocities are common among the young people of 20-30 years old. Why do our younger generation get themselves involved in these kinds of atrocities? The main reason is that many of our youths eagerly hasten to be rich at all cost (Prov. 28:20,22). They are thirsty for quick wealth. They want big names and popularity for themselves. They are eager to have influence in the society.
However, the Word of God does not leave us in darkness as regards the consequences that associate with being hasty to be rich (1 Tim. 6:9-10). The craving to get rich and the love of money are two sides of the same coin. These attitudes lead to temptation. Those who are hasty to get rich will be tempted to do wicked things in order to accomplish their purpose. These attitudes also lead people to a trap or snare. The people will be in bondage because of their desire to be rich. And finally, the people will be brought into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. They will become submerged as a ship that sinks.
The Bible does not condemn being rich at all (Deut. 8:18). It only condemns the haste to be rich, not only because wealth is not necessary for a life of godly contentment, but because of its scrim and moral risks. The person who pursues money thinks that riches will solve his problems, when in reality, riches will create more problems (Prov. 11:4,28). Material wealth if not godly, gives a dangerous, false sense of sincerity which ends in tragedy (Jer. 17:11).
PRAYER POINTS:
1. I refuse to pursue what you God does not give to me, in Jesus' name.
2. Lord, let the spirit of contentment operate in my life,in Jesus' name.
3. Lord, minister to our young generation to patiently wait for you for their own time.EXTRA READING FOR TODAY: 1 KINGS 17-20
